We have had it all the past few days. 60 degree sunny days and then the ice storm hit and then 5" of snow and now it is a crisp 24 degrees and the trees are covered with ice and snow. With the sun shining through the tree branches it looks as though the woods are covered with fairy lights.
When the branches take on the icy cover, they get very heavy and often break. Locally there are many branches down along with some power lines. We have mostly underground utilities in our neighborhood, so we are lucky.
Click on the photos to see the icy branches close-up.
John is still loving the drama of Eastern US weather. He enjoys shoveling the snow. Today he was really amused when he went out to get the mail and the mailbox was frozen closed. He had to pry it open with a screwdriver.
The pine trees really take the brunt of the ice. There is more for the ice to cling to. The heavy branches look like the pine tree has just slumped down in submission. The icicles hanging from the ends of the pine branches look like tinsel on a Christmas tree.
Are you wondering why I haven't been making art? Me too.
